Library Board

The powers, functions, and duties of this Commission are:

1. To administer, operate and manage a pubic library, or libraries for the City of Camden, Arkansas, with such funds and property as may be available for that purpose by the City of Camden, Arkansas, or which may be donated, or contributed by other sources.

2. To adopt, subject to the approval of the City Board of Aldermen, plans and specifications for the construction and erection of a public library building, or buildings for the City of Camden, Arkansas.

3. To adopt and put into operation, subject to the approval of the City Board of Aldermen, a plan, or plans for the raising of additional funds over and above those provided by the City of Camden, for the construction of a library building or buildings and the maintenance and operation of a library, or libraries in the City of Camden, Arkansas.

4. To Accept in the name of the Camden Library Commissions any donations, or contributions which may be tendered in money or property for buildings, operation of, or maintenance of a public library, or libraries in the City of Camden upon any condition other then that they be used for library purposes shall be accepted, only after approval of the City Board of Aldermen.

5. To employ librarians, clerical assistants, janitors, etc., for the operation and maintenance of a public library and to purchase books, reference works, supplies, materials, etc., for the operation of a public library with funds made available for that purpose by the City of Camden or derived from other sources.

6. To consider, formulate and recommend to the City Board of Aldermen plans for coordinating the functions of the City Library with the library services offered by the County and/or State and/or Federal Government.

7. The Commission shall after its appointment, organize itself and elect such officers as it deems necessary. Accurate and complete records of its proceedings and of its receipts and expenditures shall be maintained by the Commission as public records subject to the inspection of any citizen of the City of Camden under such reasonable regulations as the Commission may provide.
